Reagan’s Gone From Sliding Stops To Half-Halts

Burbank, Calif.—Feb. 28 In the sea of huge warmbloods, all with equally huge gaits, at the Burbank CDI, Reagan stands out. He’s small—somewhere between 14.3 and 15 hands—and he’s a sturdy chestnut with white socks and a white face. He’s also a Quarter Horse who spent the first several years of his life under saddle […]

THE MONTY ROBERTS INTERNATIONAL LEARNING CENTER

The Monty Roberts International Learning Center (MRILC) is dedicated to promoting gentle, more effective alternatives to violence and force through educational courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels of horsemanship. Monty Roberts, Dean of Students, leads a team of exceptional Certified Instructors who have dedicated themselves to sharing Monty’s training philosophies by completing an extensive certification process.

The MRILC is unique from other training facilities because the primary focus of our curriculum is on equine psychology and behavior rather than riding skills. Students develop a solid understanding of what motivates and influences equine behavior in order to increase their effectiveness in the application of their choice: virtually any discipline of riding, veterinary assisting, shoeing, racehorse training and so forth.

The Monty Roberts International Learning Center is located at Flag Is Up Farms in the Santa Ynez Valley, California at the heart of the Central Coast’s wine country just 40 miles north of Santa Barbara.

KATELYNN HENTZELL| NEVADA

Katelynn was born and raised in Vegas and started riding when she was ten years old. Her passion for horses quickly became her lifestyle and she was consumed with everything equestrian. Even at a young age, she used a violent free way of training. At 13 she adopted a wild mustang and competed in the Mustang Makeover yearling edition where she placed 2nd. She continued training her mustang and competing in 4H while in school. She later acquired a love for barrel racing and now competes in local shows. She met Monty at Cowboy Christmas in Las Vegas in 2011 and soon after came to visit the farm. Her love for mustangs and young horses tied in perfectly with the Monty Robert’s training method so she took her Introductory Course in October of 2012. She dedicated herself to learning and became an Instructor in May of 2015. Katelynn currently lives in Las Vegas where she offers courses and riding lessons.

Instructor Amanda Everatt

Amanda was born and raised in rural Maine and started riding at age 5. Her passion for horses continued, and at age 13 after reading his book “The Man Who Listens To Horses” she wrote a letter to Monty Roberts. It was in that letter she expressed her commitment to one day travel to his farm in California and learn his methods of horsemanship. For several years Amanda traveled back and forth from Maine to California, working with and learning from any horse she could along the way.  In 2011 she became a Monty Roberts Certified Instructor and returned to Maine to continue her work with horses. Her goal is to help people understand their horses, and develop a better relationship. It is with that goal in mind Amanda teaches Monty Roberts Courses, works with both horse and human to open up lines of communication and performs equine bodywork to ensure the horse maintains a sound mind and body.

CERTIFICATION COURSES

The Introductory and Advanced courses provide a strong foundation in Monty’s methods. They are valuable in their own right, but are also part of the process to become a Monty Roberts Instructor.

The Introductory course can be completed with any of our Certified Instructors worldwide. Some teach it in different formats, but the content and qualification are the same. For some students, the Introductory Course provides all of the skill they need to be successful with their horses. For those who want to further their skills, or become professionals in the industry, the next step is the Advanced course, which can only be completed at Flag Is Up Farms in California.

All course offer students effective tools to communicate using the horse’s own natural language, forming a partnership based on trust and communication rather than dominance. Included in your course is a subscription to Monty’s Equus Online University. This online learning tool will give you a great start prior to the course and a greater idea of what you will be learning and doing in the round pen during your course. The ongoing education that you will have with the online lessons will suggest exercises to continue with at home while working toward your exams.
